Senator Chris Murphy opposes US military action in Yemen
US Senator Chris Murphy has expressed opposition to US military intervention in Yemen following a Houthi attack on Riyadh Airport. Murphy, who was at the airport a day prior to the attack after meeting with officials from Saudi Arabia and Qatar, stated that the conflict is spiraling out of control.
Murphy argued that US involvement could escalate tensions with both Houthi rebels and Iran. He suggested that the best way to protect US troops in the region is to end the war and called for the US to cease unilateral military actions, urging regional allies to take responsibility for securing the Red Sea and maritime routes.
The attack resulted in 12 deaths and has intensified the conflict between Houthi rebels and Saudi Arabia. The Indian Embassy in Riyadh reported that the attack injured 11 Indian citizens, one of whom has since died. Several other Indian nationals remain hospitalized, including three in intensive care.
