On NBC’s Meet the Press, Senator Chris Murphy of Connecticut avoided answering questions about New York Democratic House candidate Darializa Avila Chevalier, a self‑identified democratic socialist. When confronted with a campaign ad highlighting her previous social‑media remarks, including calling former President Joe Biden a “rapist,” Murphy said he was “not super familiar” with the race.

He emphasized the Democratic Party’s need for a “big‑tent” approach and argued that incrementalism had failed to satisfy voters. Murphy cited former President Donald Trump as the greatest threat to American democracy, rejected labeling the party as socialist, and suggested the party must adopt broader ideas while protecting democracy.
