Senator Cynthia Lummis pushes U.S. CLARITY Act on digital asset regulation
U.S. Senator Cynthia Lummis has urged Congress to advance the Digital Asset Market CLARITY Act, saying it would give law‑enforcement agencies faster tools for interdiction, including the ability to temporarily freeze suspected illicit funds and extend financial regulations to digital assets. Lummis highlighted three core benefits for the industry: “certainty for developers,” “protection for investors” and “integrity for markets.”
The bill, which has cleared the House and the Senate Banking Committee, seeks to clarify the regulatory jurisdictions of the SEC and CFTC and builds on the GENIUS Act that established a stable‑coin framework in July 2025. It now awaits a full Senate vote, requiring 60 votes to overcome a filibuster. Market‑pricing models show a 33% chance of enactment by the end of 2026, down from 46% a day earlier.
