Senator Elissa Slotkin faces ethics complaint over remarks on Trump administration
Senator Elissa Slotkin (D-Mich.) is facing a Senate ethics complaint filed by the Center to Advance Security in America following remarks made at the University of Chicago. The watchdog group requested an investigation into whether Slotkin’s comments violated Senate ethical standards by threatening public service.
During her appearance, Slotkin suggested that Democrats should use congressional power to hold officials accountable, noting that while the president has immunity, those around him do not. She stated she wanted to send a “deterrence message” to young people, suggesting they might avoid working for the Trump administration to avoid potential legal problems.
Donald Trump has criticized the remarks, calling Slotkin a “lowlife” and suggesting she should be tried. Slotkin has defended her position, characterizing the backlash as “manufactured outrage” and accusing opponents of targeting her because she is a woman. She has also accused the president of attempting to weaponize the justice department against political adversaries.
