Senator Elizabeth Warren urges major U.S. companies to pass tariff refunds to consumers

Senator Elizabeth Warren sent letters to Apple, Amazon, Energizer, Motorola, Nike, Target and Walmart requesting details on the billions of refunds they have received from illegal tariffs imposed under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA). She urged the firms to return those refunds directly to consumers, noting that American families bore about 95% of the tariff costs. The U.S. government has refunded more than $100 billion to businesses, yet many shoppers have not seen price relief. Companies disclosed large refunds, such as Apple’s $2.2 billion and Amazon’s $600 million, but have not responded to the senator’s inquiries.

Warren’s demand includes disclosure of the refund amounts, any expected future refunds, and how the companies plan to use the money. The move aims to address consumer overcharges that resulted from the now‑invalid tariffs.
