Senator Francis Fadahunsi questioned by police over alleged threats to Accord Party

Senator Francis Fadahunsi of the All Progressives Congress (APC) was questioned by the Osun State Police Command following a viral video in which he allegedly urged supporters to ‘kill’ members of the Accord Party. Fadahunsi has denied inciting violence, maintaining that his remarks were a political metaphor intended to encourage supporters to defeat the party through votes in the upcoming August 15 governorship election.

Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has condemned the remarks as a national security threat and called for the senator's arrest and prosecution. The Governor also alleged that police are planning to illegally arrest Accord Party leaders to weaken them before the election, and noted that over 62 Accord members are currently being held in detention without charges.

The Accord Party has petitioned the European Union and ECOWAS, citing rising political tensions and fatalities in the state. Meanwhile, the National Human Rights Commission has called for Fadahunsi's immediate suspension and arrest, while the Inspector-General of Police has deployed additional security to coordinate operations for the election.
