Osun State election: Candidates withdraw to back Adeleke as legal probe begins
Ahead of the Osun State governorship election scheduled for August 15, the political landscape has shifted significantly. Two candidates, Adebayo Simon Adewale of the Allied People’s Movement (APM) and Adedamola Adebayo of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), have withdrawn from the race and endorsed the incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke.
While the PDP recently secured a Court of Appeal judgment affirming its candidate, the party announced it would not contest the election, citing the late timing of the ruling and alleged bias from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Simultaneously, legal tensions have escalated. An Abuja Magistrate has ordered the Nigeria Police Force to investigate a criminal complaint against Senator Francis Fadahunsi. The complaint, filed by lawyer Pelumi Olajengbesi, alleges that Fadahunsi made controversial remarks calling for violence against members of the Accord Party. The Osun State Government has also filed a suit to compel security agencies to investigate these alleged threats.
