Coahuila seeks semiconductor investments up to $500 million
The state of Coahuila, Mexico, is launching a strategic initiative to attract semiconductor industry investments ranging from $150 million to $500 million per project. Following a pre-feasibility study conducted by Arizona State University, the state aims to begin manufacturing, packaging, and testing activities within approximately 12 months.
To support this transition, the Coahuila government is prioritizing workforce development. This includes aligning technical school programs with industry needs and providing specialized training for educators, supported by courses from Arizona State University. Key challenges identified for the sector include ensuring adequate water and electricity supplies, developing necessary infrastructure, and creating specialized industrial spaces.
Regional leaders and industrial associations, such as AIERA in Ramos Arizpe, are working to coordinate efforts between government and the private sector to diversify the local economy beyond its current automotive strengths. The strategy targets several regions, including the Southeast, Center, Border, Laguna, and Carbonífera, to establish Coahuila as a competitive technological hub.
