Senator George Ștefănache resigns from USR

Senator George Ștefănache has resigned from the Save Romania Union (USR) party, announcing he will continue his parliamentary duties as an independent senator. The Galați-based lawmaker stated that his decision follows a long period of reflection regarding whether he could remain faithful to his own principles while staying within the party structure.

Ștefănache cited a misalignment between his personal rhythm and the political organization, suggesting that the party has become increasingly focused on itself rather than on societal needs. He expressed dissatisfaction with the local USR Galați branch, describing its inactivity as 'assumed,' and criticized the party's leadership and direction.

In his public statement, the senator emphasized his commitment to representing the citizens of Galați and his intention to continue political opposition against the PSD in the region. He also noted that local USR candidates in Galați should be local residents rather than figures from the central leadership.
