Senator Irajá Abreu withdraws from PSD state convention in Tocantins, cites lack of dialogue

Senator Irajá Abreu (PSD) sent an official letter to state party president Laurez Moreira, refusing to have his name listed for any position at the PSD state convention in Tocantins and prohibiting the use of his image in promotional material. In the letter he criticised the party’s handling of the 2026 election candidate lists, saying there was no internal debate on the majoritarian and proportional slates and warning that the absence of a competitive federal deputy ticket would weaken the party in the state.

Abreu also highlighted the treatment of pre‑candidate Ivanete Lima, describing a public “veto” of her name as an act of prejudice against a Black, evangelical community leader. He stated he would remain available to run for office if the national PSD leadership intervenes and changes the state party’s conduct. The PSD Tocantins branch acknowledged his withdrawal, reiterated his role in the coalition, and said the party respects his decision while remaining open to dialogue.
