Senator Jaques Wagner investigated as assets rise 630% over eight years

Brazilian Senator Jaques Wagner (PT‑BA) saw his declared net worth increase from R$ 3.3 million in 2018 to R$ 24.5 million, a growth of more than 630 %. The rise stems from the sale of a land parcel to the Bahia football club, larger financial investments and other assets, while cash and foreign currency seized by the Federal Police in June were not declared.

Wagner is the focus of Operation Compliance Zero, a Federal Police probe into alleged fraud, money‑laundering and obstruction linked to Banco Master. The Supreme Court lifted secrecy on the investigation, permitting authorities to examine Wagner’s phone data and that of Augusto Lima, a former Banco Master partner. Wagner told radio listeners he is “tranquilo” and confident he will prove his innocence, emphasizing that the inquiry will not distract him from his Senate re‑election campaign.
