Senator Jaques Wagner pushes integrated crime fight as federal probe summons him

Senator Jaques Wagner (PT) said organized crime in Brazil ignores party lines and urged a coordinated response by the federal government, states and municipalities. He highlighted local successes such as Santo Antônio de Jesus, which improved its violence ranking after investments in public lighting, urban planning and municipal guards, and called for the approval of the public‑security amendment and a Ministry of Public Security proposed by President Lula.

At the same time, the Federal Police have issued a summons for Wagner to testify on 7 August in the “Operation Compliance Zero” investigation into a alleged multi‑billion‑real‑estate fraud scheme involving Banco Master. Prosecutors view him as a possible central beneficiary of the scheme, though Wagner says he is calm and will prove his innocence. He declined to comment further, citing legal advice.
