Brazil Senator Jaques Wagner's R$15.8 million land sale blocked after PF raid
On 18 June 2026 the Federal Police launched the ninth phase of Operation Compliance Zero, targeting Senator Jaques Wagner (PT‑BA) over allegations of receiving bribes from Banco Master. A day after the raid, Wagner’s lawyers attempted to transfer two properties: a 51,000 m² plot in Camaçari valued at R$15.8 million and a luxury apartment in Salvador worth R$10 million, the latter purchased by Mayor Marcelo Passos. Both sales were halted by the Camaçari land‑registry after STF Minister André Mendonça issued an asset‑freeze order. Wagner is reported to have already received about R$12 million from the deals before the injunction. The transactions involved Lagoons Empreendimentos, linked to the City Football Group’s Grupo City, which planned to use the land for a Bahia training‑centre project. Wagner’s defense argues the negotiations began in 2024 and were legally documented, denying any wrongdoing.
