Senator Jaques Wagner scheduled to testify in Federal probe of Banco Master
Senator Jaques Wagner (PT‑BA) has been ordered by the Federal Police to appear for testimony on 7 August as part of the ongoing Operation Compliance Zero, which investigates alleged irregularities involving the now‑liquidated Banco Master. The inquiry focuses on whether Wagner received economic advantages – such as the use of private aircraft, payments, and the acquisition of a luxury apartment in Salvador – in exchange for legislative support for the bank.
Following a June search and seizure operation, a Supreme Court‑issued asset‑restriction order blocked Wagner’s sale of a 51,000 m² plot in the Salvador metropolitan area valued at about R$ 15.8 million, as well as the transfer of the apartment. Wagner’s defence maintains he acted lawfully and says he will exercise his right to silence during the hearing, asserting his innocence.
The case has drawn national attention, with the senator stepping down from his leadership role in the Senate government bloc after the probe began.
