Senator Jayme Campos seeks leave from União Brasil to support Wellington Fagundes

Senator Jayme Campos of the União Brasil party has requested a 45-day temporary leave from his party's electoral obligations in Mato Grosso. The request, submitted to the State Executive Commission on September 16, aims to allow him to support Senator Wellington Fagundes (PL) in the race for the Governor of Mato Grosso without facing party sanctions.

Campos cited political and electoral divergences regarding the party's strategy for the state election. While União Brasil is officially part of the coalition supporting Otaviano Pivetta (Republicanos), Campos seeks to distance himself from that campaign. He emphasized that this request does not constitute a resignation from the party; he intends to remain a member of União Brasil and continue serving in the party's Senate bloc.

The friction follows a July convention where Campos's proposal for the party to run its own gubernatorial candidate was defeated by a 30-to-19 vote in favor of the alliance with Pivetta.
