Senator John Curtis calls for investigation into Donald Trump Jr
Senator John Curtis (R-UT) has called on the Senate Judiciary Committee leadership to investigate the business dealings of the presidential family, specifically recommending a subpoena for Donald Trump Jr. The request follows reports that Umar Kremlev, a Russian oligarch with ties to Vladimir Putin, funded an expensive wedding after-party for Trump Jr. in the Bahamas, including a private island rental.
Curtis argued that the investigation is necessary to maintain consistency in congressional oversight, noting that Republicans previously conducted extensive investigations into Hunter Biden’s foreign business relationships. He stated, “A toaster is a wedding gift. A private-island party paid for by a Putin-connected oligarch is something else.”
While Curtis was initially the sole Republican to voice this demand, several other GOP senators have expressed support or concern. Senator Thom Tillis (R-NC) described the acceptance of the gifts as “colossally bad judgment at best,” while Senators John Cornyn (R-TX), Lisa Murkowski (R-AK), and Bill Cassidy (R-LA) have also signaled support for the inquiry or noted that the circumstances appear problematic.
