Senator John Curtis refuses to alter filibuster amid Trump push for SAVE America Act

Republican Senator John Curtis of Utah wrote an op‑ed in the Wall Street Journal declaring he will not change the Senate filibuster, saying any party that does so would face “guaranteed death” when the next majority takes power. Curtis argues the filibuster “protects independence” and gives individual senators the ability to stop or slow legislation, safeguarding the minority’s voice.

His stance places him with other Republicans, including Senator Lisa Murkowski and Senate Majority Leader John Thune, who have also resisted President Donald Trump’s demand to terminate or weaken the filibuster to pass the controversial SAVE America Act, a voting‑rights bill.
