Senator John Fetterman threatens to quit Democratic Party over Israel aid

U.S. Senator John Fetterman (D‑PA) said he would leave the Democratic Party if it voted to end financial aid to Israel, calling the issue his “red line.” His statement followed a vote in which more than 100 Democrats supported withdrawing U.S. support for Israel amid the country’s incursions into Lebanon and Jordan and the ongoing conflict with Palestinians.

The American Israel Public Affairs Committee responded by closing its donor portal to Democrats who voted for the measure. Analyst Jack Hopkins criticised Fetterman’s threat in a Substack essay, describing it as a “tiresome performance” and arguing it was not an act of courage but a political stunt.

The episode drew sharp criticism and highlighted intra‑party tensions over foreign‑policy positions.
