Senator John Kennedy considers 2028 presidential run

Republican Senator John Kennedy of Louisiana has indicated he is considering a run for president in 2028. During an appearance on NBC News’ ‘Meet the Press’, Kennedy stated that while his current focus is seeking re-election to the Senate, he would consider a presidential bid if he felt he could no longer be effective in the Senate or if the Republican field consisted of what he described as ‘a bunch of goobers’ who might win.

Kennedy declined to comment on potential competition from Vice President JD Vance, who is considered a leading contender for the 2028 nomination. Other figures mentioned in the context of future Republican leadership include Senator Marco Rubio, who has stated he has no current plans to run, and Senator Ted Cruz, whom Vance suggested is already positioning himself for a campaign.

In addition to discussing his political future, Kennedy defended Senator Tom Cotton against criticism from President Donald Trump regarding the Sunshine Protection Act, characterizing the dispute as one without existential significance for Western civilization.
