Senator John Kennedy proposes ban on naming federal buildings after living politicians
Senator John Kennedy (R-La.) has proposed a rule to prohibit living politicians from having federal buildings named after them. The proposal comes in response to efforts by President Donald Trump to rename several federal institutions, including the Kennedy Center.
During an appearance on CBS News’ ‘Face the Nation’, Kennedy argued that such a rule would resolve ongoing controversies regarding the rebranding of national landmarks. He also criticized the use of taxpayer funds for political advertisements, stating that government officials should not be permitted to ‘spend public money on private ads for themselves.’
Trump’s administration has previously attempted to rename the United States Institute of Peace and has faced legal challenges regarding attempts to rebrand the Kennedy Center as the ‘Donald J. Trump and the John F. Kennedy Memorial Center for the Performing Arts.’
