Senator José Ramón Gómez Leal admits link to Sergio Carmona

Mexican Senator José Ramón Gómez Leal, known as ‘El JR’, has admitted to having a personal relationship with businessman Sergio Carmona, following previous denials of any connection to him.

Gómez Leal initially claimed that allegations linking him to Carmona—who is associated with hydrocarbon trafficking, or ‘huachicol’—were political fabrications. However, after information regarding the contents of Carmona’s mobile phone was released, the Senator changed his stance, acknowledging he knew Carmona but maintaining that he was unaware of the businessman's involvement in illegal fuel activities.

The controversy arises amid Gómez Leal’s political ambitions in Tamaulipas and questions regarding potential complicity or business ties between the Senator and the Carmona family.
