Senator Josh Hawley calls for congressional ban on mifepristone
Senator Josh Hawley (R-Mo.) is calling for a congressional ban on the abortion drug mifepristone. Speaking at the Family Research Council Action’s Pray Vote Stand Summit, Hawley argued that the medication is unsafe for both the fetus and the mother.
Hawley claimed that the drug causes serious medical complications, stating that more than one in ten women who take the pill require emergency room visits for life-threatening conditions. He further alleged that the ability to obtain the drug via mail and online has increased abortion rates beyond levels seen during the Roe v. Wade era.
The Senator has introduced the Safeguarding Women from Chemical Abortion Act to address these concerns. He challenged other Republican candidates and colleagues to support the ban if they identify as pro-life.
