Senator Juan Carlos Pagotto of La Libertad Avanza dies at 74

Juan Carlos Pagotto, a national senator representing La Rioja for the La Libertad Avanza party, was found dead at his home in the provincial capital on Tuesday. Pagotto, 74, had recently been hospitalized for a cardiac condition, and preliminary reports suggest his death may have been caused by a heart attack.

Pagotto held significant legislative roles, including presiding over the Senate's Agreements Commission and the Permanent Bicameral Commission for Legislative Procedures. His work was particularly impactful regarding judicial appointments and the processing of necessity and urgency decrees.

Following his death, presidential spokesperson Adrián Ravier confirmed that Claudia Cecilia López will succeed him in the Senate. López, a provincial deputy and accountant, is noted for her political alignment with the Menem family. She is expected to take her oath of office during an upcoming Senate session to complete the term ending in December 2029.
