Senator Kingibe challenges Wike over FCT loan approvals

Senator Ireti Kingibe has challenged the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, to provide official parliamentary records proving that recent loans obtained by the FCT Administration received proper legislative authorization.

Kingibe specifically demanded that the minister produce the Senate’s “Votes and Proceedings” to validate claims that the borrowing was incorporated into the budget and subjected to the required approval process. She asserted that the Senate has no record of any presentation or deliberation regarding these specific loans, suggesting the executive branch may have bypassed the National Assembly’s oversight powers.

Wike has rejected the allegations, maintaining that government borrowing is subject to legislative approval. The dispute has also involved personal political friction, with Kingibe criticizing attempts to intimidate female politicians and rejecting comments regarding her potential return to the Senate in 2027.
