French Senator Laurent Duplomb is the subject of a preliminary investigation regarding suspected misuse of public funds. The investigation, reportedly opened by the Clermont-Ferrand prosecutor's office, follows a report concerning the activities of one of the senator's parliamentary assistants.

The allegations stem from reports published by the digital media outlet Médiacités in May 2025. It is alleged that the assistant used her position and public resources to recruit militants for Laurent Wauquiez during his leadership bid for the Les Républicains party. An environmental regional councillor filed a formal report with the Puy-en-Velay court, arguing that using a publicly funded staffer for internal party missions constitutes a misappropriation of funds.

While a source close to the matter confirmed the investigation, the Clermont-Ferrand prosecutor's office has neither confirmed nor denied the proceedings. Duplomb, known for the controversial Duplomb law regarding phytosanitary products, has not immediately responded to the allegations. Supporters have claimed the assistant performed such tasks on her own time and with her own resources.
