Senator Lisa Murkowski endorses Democrat for Alaska governor

Republican Senator Lisa Murkowski has endorsed Democratic candidate Jonathan Kreiss-Tomkins in the race for Governor of Alaska. The endorsement comes in the final week before the November 3 general election.

Murkowski cited a need for change in the state, criticizing the current administration under term-limited Republican Governor Mike Dunleavy. She noted that the state has failed to effectively utilize federal funds in certain areas and expressed a desire for a governor who will work collaboratively with the legislature.

Kreiss-Tomkins, a former state lawmaker, is running in a field that includes Republican candidates Bernadette Wilson, Dave Bronson, and Treg Taylor. Alaska utilizes a ranked-choice voting system for this election. Recent polling has indicated that Kreiss-Tomkins is leading the race, partly due to a divided Republican field.
