Senator Manuel Huerta faces investigation by Veracruz Electoral Tribunal
Senator Manuel Huerta Ladrón de Guevara is facing a reopened investigation regarding his political loyalty to the Morena party. The Veracruz Electoral Tribunal (TEV) recently revoked a previous internal decision by Morena’s National Commission of Honesty and Justice, which had originally dismissed a complaint against him.
The complaint alleges that Huerta engaged in proselytism in favor of a candidate from the Labor Party (PT) during the 2025 municipal elections in Acajete, where Morena and the PT were competing separately. The TEV ordered Morena to redo the procedure, citing deficiencies in the initial investigation and failure to meet regulatory deadlines. The court's ruling does not establish guilt or impose sanctions.
Huerta has announced his intention to challenge the TEV's resolution before the Regional Chamber of the Federal Electoral Tribunal. He accused the Veracruz tribunal of acting under political pressure and questioned why the burden of proof was placed on him. The situation follows ongoing public friction between Huerta and other Morena figures, including criticisms directed at Governor Rocío Nahle García.
