Senator María Clara Posada criticizes JEP over Timochenko videos

Senator María Clara Posada of the Centro Democrático party has criticized the Special Jurisdiction for Peace (JEP) following the release of videos featuring former FARC leader Rodrigo Londoño, also known as ‘Timochenko’. Posada released footage from a 2019 JEP hearing regarding kidnapping cases, arguing that the tribunal provides a platform for former guerrillas to defend their actions during the conflict rather than ensuring justice.

One specific video clip, which shows a brief moment of levity during a hearing, has circulated widely on social media. While critics have used the clip to suggest complicity between the JEP and former combatants, analysts note that the short segment lacks the context of years of judicial work, including Londoño’s subsequent admissions of committing crimes against humanity.

In the released footage, Londoño denies that kidnapping was used by the FARC for the personal enrichment of its leadership, claiming instead that the practice was not intended to benefit a small group of commanders.
