Peter Obi’s convoy attacked by suspected thugs in Calabar

The campaign convoy of Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate Peter Obi came under attack by suspected political thugs in Calabar, Cross River State. The incident occurred on Wednesday as the convoy was moving toward a town hall meeting at the Metropolitan Hotel.

According to reports, attackers ambushed the convoy near the Watt Market area, hurling stones, bottles, and other objects at vehicles. Some campaign buses sustained damage, including shattered windscreens and side mirrors. While some NDC supporters reportedly sustained injuries, one individual was seen being evacuated with a gunshot wound to the leg, which was attributed to a stray bullet.

Security personnel intervened to disperse the assailants and restore order. The Cross River State Police Command confirmed the arrest of a 27-year-old suspect, identified as Victor Edet Yellow-Duke. Police have launched an investigation to identify other participants and potential sponsors of the attack.

Following the incident, Peter Obi addressed supporters at the town hall meeting, condemning the political violence and vowing to resist such tactics ahead of the 2027 general elections.
