Senator Rand Paul inspects Fort Knox gold supply
U.S. Senator Rand Paul visited the Fort Knox United States Bullion Depository to inspect the nation's gold supply. Paul stated that the country holds approximately 147 million ounces of gold, with about half of that amount stored at the Fort Knox facility.
During his visit, Paul advocated for a full audit of the facility, noting that the last comprehensive overviews occurred in 1953 and a partial one in 1974. He used the visit to highlight concerns regarding the devaluation of the U.S. dollar, asserting that the currency has lost roughly 85% of its value since the United States severed the link between the dollar and gold in 1971.
Paul also attributed rising inflation and price increases to deficit spending and the Federal Reserve's role in creating money to cover national debt. He noted that prices have risen by 25% over the last five years.
