Senator Rick Scott accuses Turkey of 'thuggish behavior' toward Greece and Cyprus

U.S. Senator Rick Scott has issued blunt criticism of Turkey, accusing the NATO ally of 'thuggish behavior' toward Greece and Cyprus. During visits to both nations, the Florida Republican highlighted Turkey's continued military presence in northern Cyprus and its maritime and airspace disputes with Greece as evidence that Ankara is not acting like a true NATO ally.

Scott specifically addressed the ongoing division of Cyprus, attributing the situation to Turkey and President Erdogan. He also expressed support for a planned undersea electricity interconnection project linking Greece and Cyprus, with potential extensions to Israel. While Scott welcomed the project, Turkey has maintained that it must be consulted before any seabed surveys are conducted.

In addition to energy and sovereignty issues, Scott met with Greek officials to discuss defense cooperation and regional security, emphasizing the importance of the U.S.-Greece alliance in deterring aggression in the Eastern Mediterranean.
