Senator Rick Scott introduces bills to block Chinese military-linked firms from U.S. markets

Senator Rick Scott (R-Fla.) has introduced two legislative proposals aimed at restricting Chinese companies identified by the Pentagon as supporting the Chinese military from accessing U.S. capital markets.

The first proposal, the Know Your Sanctioned Securities Act, would require the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) to implement a ticker-symbol identification system. This system would add a visible warning to the stock tickers of companies on the Pentagon’s 1260H blacklist, helping investors identify entities linked to the Chinese military.

The Pentagon's blacklist includes various sectors such as artificial intelligence, robotics, solar energy, and electric vehicles. Notable companies currently on the list include Alibaba Group Holding, Baidu, and BYD. If the legislation passes, the SEC would have 180 days to establish the necessary rules for implementation.
