Senator Rospigliosi files disciplinary complaints against Peruvian judges

Senator Fernando Rospigliosi has filed disciplinary complaints against several members of the Peruvian judiciary, sparking a debate over judicial independence. One complaint was filed with the National Board of Justice (JNJ) against three judges from the Third National Superior Criminal Chamber, who issued a ruling regarding the 1992 Castro Castro prison massacre. Rospigliosi is questioning their decision to not apply specific laws regarding crimes against humanity and amnesty for security forces.

Additionally, Rospigliosi announced intentions to file a complaint against Judge José Matos Centeno. The senator alleges that Matos Centeno illegally ordered preventive detention for eight military personnel involved in a confrontation in Colcabamba, Huancavelica, which resulted in the deaths of five youths. While a higher court in Huancayo has since revoked the detention, the legal challenges against the judiciary continue.

President Keiko Fujimori addressed the controversy by stating that she would not directly comment on the senator's specific actions, noting that the opinions and decisions of congressmen are their own responsibility. However, she reaffirmed her administration's commitment to the separation of powers and the rule of law.
