Senator Sheldon Whitehouse Accuses DHS of Using White‑Supremacist ICE Recruitment Materials

U.S. Senator Sheldon Whitehouse, a member of an exclusive Newport beach club that has faced criticism for an all‑white membership policy, has publicly charged the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) with employing white‑supremacist imagery in recruitment materials for Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

Whitehouse says he sent four letters—first to former Secretary of the Interior Deb Haaland (mistakenly referred to as Secretary Noem) in February, then to DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas (referred to as Secretary Mullin) in April, followed by additional letters in June and July—seeking an explanation for the alleged content. He claims the letters have gone unanswered and that the materials feature songs, symbols and language associated with right‑wing extremist movements. Republicans have dismissed the accusations as baseless, noting no evidence of such recruitment tactics.

The controversy highlights Whitehouse’s continued criticism of federal agencies while he maintains his affiliation with the private club, which has been accused of discriminatory membership practices.
