Senator Steph Hodgins-May confronts solicitor over alleged misogynistic comment

Greens Senator Steph Hodgins-May has publicly confronted Newcastle solicitor Roland Day following an alleged misogynistic comment left on her Instagram page. In a video posted to social media, Ms. Hodgins-May called Mr. Day to question whether his use of violent language toward women was acceptable or tolerated by his law firm.

According to a transcript provided by the senator, Mr. Day allegedly referred to her as a “stupid bitch” and indicated he might use similar language toward his daughter or female colleagues if they acted in a certain manner. Ms. Hodgins-May stated that such abusive and misogynistic comments are a common reality for women in the public eye and part of a broader culture that normalizes harassment.

Following the video's release, the website for Mr. Day's law firm was taken down, and his listed phone number went to voicemail. Records indicate that in 2002, Mr. Day resigned as a New South Wales Local Court magistrate while facing misconduct allegations.
