Troy Jackson defends debate outburst against Susan Collins
During a final Senate debate in Maine, Democratic challenger Troy Jackson told Republican incumbent Senator Susan Collins to ‘shut up’ after she suggested a protester interrupting the event was a supporter of his campaign. The protester, identified as 19-year-old Henry Elgie, stated he had no coordination with the Jackson campaign, though the Sunrise Movement claimed him as a volunteer.
In subsequent interviews, Jackson expressed no regret for the outburst, stating he felt Collins was ‘talking down’ to him. Senator Collins criticized the remark, suggesting it reflected a pattern of Jackson treating women poorly.
In a separate campaign event in Portland, Senator Elizabeth Warren joined Jackson at a rally to urge voters to support him against Collins. The rally was part of broader ‘No Kings’ demonstrations occurring across Maine.
