Senator Susan Collins requests campaign donations for fuel costs
Maine Senator Susan Collins is requesting small donations from supporters to fund travel expenses for her statewide re-election campaign. In a recent fundraising email, her team asked for contributions as low as $5 to help “put gas in the tank” and keep the campaign team moving during their tour from Kittery to Madawaska.
Collins is currently facing a competitive re-election battle against Democratic state lawmaker Troy Jackson. The request for fuel money follows political scrutiny regarding her voting record on U.S. involvement in Iran. While she recently voted to curtail hostilities under the War Powers Act in April, she had previously voted against such resolutions, citing the need to provide support to service members and maintain national security.
Reports note that other Republican incumbents, such as Senator Dan Sullivan of Alaska, have also utilized similar fundraising appeals for travel costs.
