Republican Senator Thom Tillis has criticized Donald Trump Jr. for accepting wedding funding from a Russian oligarch with ties to Vladimir Putin. The remarks follow reports from ProPublica indicating that Umar Kremlev, head of the International Boxing Association, contributed hundreds of thousands of dollars toward Trump Jr.’s May wedding to Bettina Anderson in the Bahamas.

Tillis described the situation as “stupid on stilts” and “amateur hour,” noting that the financial connection is a “bad look” for the Republican party ahead of upcoming elections. The funding reportedly covered expenses such as renting a private island and a fireworks display. While Tillis did not call for a subpoena himself, he stated he would support committee leaders deciding whether to investigate the rationale behind the payments.
