Senator Tilde Minasi initiates inquiry into Calabria healthcare committee

Senator Tilde Minasi of the Lega party has submitted a parliamentary inquiry to the Minister of Health regarding the actions of a local health committee in Calabria. The inquiry focuses on the 'Comitato spontaneo a tutela della salute di Polistena', a group that has been campaigning against the weakening of the Santa Maria degli Ungheresi hospital in Polistena.

The inquiry follows a legal action taken by the ASP of Reggio Calabria involving approximately 2,400 citizens. While the parliamentary act acknowledges the committee's civil battle for local healthcare, it also cites unidentified reports suggesting potential 'undue pressure', 'interference', or 'conditioning' of hospital management and healthcare workers by the committee. Minasi is requesting that the Ministry of Health investigate the relationships between the committee, the ASP, and hospital leadership.

Local critics argue that the political focus on the committee's methods distracts from more pressing regional healthcare crises, such as long waiting lists, physician shortages, and the potential expiration of medical contracts at the end of the year.
