Senator Todd Lewis, Saskatchewan agriculture champion, dies at 65

Senator Todd Lewis, a fourth‑generation farmer from Gray, Saskatchewan, died on August 2, 2026 at age 65.

He was appointed to the Senate by former Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on 7 February 2025 and was praised by Prime Minister Mark Carney as a steadfast voice for rural communities.

Lewis served five years as president of the Agricultural Producers Association of Saskatchewan, more than 20 years as a municipal councillor for the rural municipality of Lajord, and held roles with the Canadian Federation of Agriculture and other community organisations.

Senate Speaker Raymonde Gagné announced his death, describing him as a champion of Saskatchewan’s agricultural sector, while Saskatchewan Premier Scott Moe also issued a condolence message.
