Senator Tommy Tuberville presents Bronze Stars to Bosnia veterans
U.S. Senator Tommy Tuberville presented Bronze Star Medals to eight veterans on Tuesday in Washington, D.C., more than 30 years after the awards were originally recommended. The veterans served with the forward detachment of Joint Task Force Provide Promise in Bosnia in 1995.
The recommendations for the honors were originally submitted in 1995 but were never acted upon. Following a request by Tuberville in October 2025 for the U.S. Army Human Resources Command to review the original files, the ceremony was held in the Kennedy Caucus Room.
Among the recipients was retired Army Reserve Brigadier General Guy L. Sands-Pingot, who served as an officer for UNPROFOR’s Sector North East in Tuzla. During the conflict, Sands-Pingot coordinated humanitarian relief efforts for refugees from the former U.N. Safe Areas of Srebrenica and Zepa. The other honored veterans served in various intelligence, communications, security, and humanitarian roles during the war.
