Senators in Chad address land security and fraudulent transactions
During a Senate session on October 28, 2026, Chadian senators raised urgent concerns regarding land security, fraudulent practices, and the rising cost of property. Led by Senate President Dr. Haroun Kabadi, the session involved questioning the Minister of Land Management, Urbanism, and Habitat, Mahamat Assileck Halata, regarding systemic dysfunctions in the sector.
Senator Amné Aldjideye Moussa highlighted the difficulties families face when attempting to acquire property, noting that fraudulent documents, multiple sales of the same plot, and administrative delays turn land acquisition into a significant obstacle. These issues threaten the ability of citizens to secure assets for future generations.
Minister Mahamat Assileck Halata identified three primary challenges: soaring land prices, frequent land disputes, and difficulties in the allocation and securing of plots. He noted significant price disparities across the capital, mentioning that in certain residential areas like Farcha, plots can reach several hundred million CFA francs.
