Senators report security threats and hospital negligence
Colombian Senator Germán Rodríguez of Salvación Nacional has reported receiving over 50 threats during a single weekend. Rodríguez informed the Senate plenary that his family, including his daughters, has been targeted by unknown callers. He noted that his relatives received photographs taken of him at Congress and during other activities. The senator held a specific parliamentary member accountable for messages sent from a personal social media account to his family members and stated he holds the Pacto Histórico bloc responsible for his safety.
In Chile, Senator Fidel Espinoza is supporting legal action following the death of a woman at the Puerto Montt Hospital. The victim, who had a terminal illness, was reportedly subjected to sexual abuse prior to her passing. The family has filed a criminal complaint and requested information under transparency laws to investigate potential failures in hospital custody and security protocols. Espinoza emphasized that while the perpetrator's legal status may vary, the hospital must be held accountable for any institutional negligence regarding patient protection.
