SENDAS program expands diabetes education in Argentine schools

The SENDAS program, a local adaptation of the international KiDS (Kids with Diabetes in Schools) initiative, has reached 4,323 students and trained 2,881 teachers across 175 schools in various Argentine provinces since its implementation in 2019.

Managed by the Argentine Diabetes Society (SAD), the program aims to provide the educational community with tools to manage type 1 diabetes in school settings. It addresses critical concerns such as how to respond to hypoglycemic episodes, the necessity of insulin administration during school hours, and the ability of students to participate in physical activities. By informing students, teachers, and families, the initiative seeks to reduce stigma and support the self-care of children living with the condition.

The original KiDS program was developed in 2013 by the International Diabetes Federation (IDF) in collaboration with the International Society for Pediatric and Adolescent Diabetes (ISPAD).
