SENDAS program reaches thousands of students in Argentina

The SENDAS educational program in Argentina has reached over 4,300 students and trained 2,881 teachers across 175 schools in various provinces since its implementation in 2019. The initiative aims to provide tools to the educational community to better support students living with type 1 diabetes.

By addressing common concerns—such as how to manage hypoglycemia episodes, the necessity of insulin administration, and the ability to participate in physical activity—the program seeks to reduce stigma and lack of knowledge within schools. SENDAS is the local adaptation of the international KiDS (Kids and Diabetes in Schools) program, which was originally developed in 2013 by the International Diabetes Federation and the International Society for Pediatric and Adolescent Diabetes.

In Argentina, the program is led by the Sociedad Argentina de Diabetes. It focuses on educating students, teachers, and families to ensure that children with diabetes can manage their health safely during school hours in an informed environment.
