Senedd members call for prostate cancer inclusion in Wales strategy

Members of the Senedd have expressed support for including prostate cancer in the national cancer strategy for Wales. During a debate, Welsh Conservative MS Paul Davies, who is living with the disease, emphasized the need for equitable access to treatment and new technologies across the country.

Davies also proposed an amendment calling for the Welsh Government to implement a national prostate cancer screening programme, noting that early detection can lead to survival rates close to 100%.

Reform’s shadow health minister, Benjamin Hodge McKenna, highlighted that prostate cancer is the most common cancer among men in Wales, with over 2,500 diagnoses and approximately 640 deaths annually. He noted that many men, particularly in deprived communities, are being diagnosed too late, leading to increased suffering and higher mortality rates.
