Senegal: 455 million FCFA allocated to banana producers in Tambacounda
The Senegalese Minister of Microfinance and Social and Solidarity Economy, Dr. Alioune Badara Dione, has announced the mobilization of over 455 million FCFA to support the banana sector in the Tambacounda region. The funding, provided through the PLASEPRI II program to the MEC APROVAG, is intended to benefit 1,925 producers, including 680 women.
These investments are aimed at strengthening local production and improving living conditions following devastating floods of the Gambia River in 2024. The funds have been used to acquire three cold rooms, two refrigerated trucks, and ten motor pumps, as well as to rehabilitate eight irrigation networks and restore damaged plantations.
In addition to financial support, the initiative included the distribution of certificates for financial education training. The financing is offered under preferential conditions, with a 1% rate for APROVAG and an 8% rate for producers, to enhance harvest conservation and commercialization efforts.
