Senegal advances debt restructuring plan amid West African economic shifts
Senegal is advancing its Debt Treatment Plan following an agreement with the International Monetary Fund (IMF). During a meeting with external creditors, the General Directorate of Financing and Debt (Dgfd) outlined a strategy for portfolio management and a timetable for signing agreements, aiming to complete various frameworks by November 2026. The government intends to follow the G20 Common Framework principles to manage its external debt.
In broader West African developments, Benin has proposed a 2027 budget of 4,757 billion FCFA focused on public investment. Niger is projected to see significant economic growth, estimated at 7% for 2026. Additionally, Burkina Faso has allocated 67 billion FCFA for the modernization of healthcare infrastructure.
On the financial inclusion front, the Central Bank of West African States (BCEAO) has approved an increase in the holding limit for electronic money accounts (Mobile Money) to 4 million FCFA. This change, effective early November 2026, is intended to facilitate e-commerce and retail transactions.
