Senegal advances Universal Health Coverage through policy and local agreements

Senegal has reaffirmed its commitment to Universal Health Coverage (UHC) during the 76th session of the WHO Regional Committee for Africa in Addis Ababa. Minister of Health and Public Hygiene, Dr. Ibrahima Sy, participated in high-level dialogues focused on strengthening regional regulatory systems, manufacturing, and sustainable health financing. He highlighted the necessity of these reforms amidst post-pandemic budget pressures, debt burdens, and climate-related health shocks.

On a local level, the Louga department has signed an agreement with SEN-CSU to operationalize management delegation. This convention, signed between SEN-CSU Director General Dr. El Hadji Sega Guèye and the President of the Louga Departmental Health Mutual, aims to expand healthcare access and increase the number of beneficiaries through proximity-based activities. Louga joins several other Senegalese departments already participating in this territorial deployment of the UHC framework.
