Senegal and Burkina Faso secure multi‑billion FCFA funding via UEMOA market

Senegal raised 107 billion FCFA in a sovereign bond auction on the UEMOA market, exceeding the target as institutional investors from the sub‑region showed strong demand. The operation, overseen by the Ministry of Finance and the BCEAO, is part of Dakar’s budget‑financing programme and offers cheaper financing than international markets amid a strained fiscal environment.

Burkina Faso announced a forthcoming sukuk issuance of 75 billion FCFA, with a nine‑year maturity (2026‑2035) and an annual profit margin of 6.80 %. Arranged by Image Finance Internationale and carrying a BB+ rating, the sukuk will be open to both institutional and retail investors from June 26 2026, aiming to diversify the country’s funding sources and support development projects despite security and budget challenges.

Both transactions highlight the growing reliance of West African states on the regional UEMOA market to mobilise large‑scale financing in local currency, reducing exchange‑rate risk and broadening the investor base.
